JLL smart building solutions help cut energy use and improve tenant experience

A six-story flexible workspace in a major city faced a familiar hybrid working reality for many companies: unpredictable occupancy patterns were driving up energy costs and waste. Based on these insights, JLL's team identified opportunities to cut out energy waste, streamline manual processes, and remove redundant system tasks that were driving up costs without adding value.

The platform then took over day-to-day optimization through intelligent automation. Customized alerts notify facility managers of any issues before they impact tenant comfort, while automated responses adjust lighting, heating, cooling, and ventilation based on actual occupancy and environmental conditions. Today, the building operates efficiently without constant human intervention.

Within just five months, the workspace achieved significant efficiency gains while improving the tenant experience. The building now operates as a fully integrated digital ecosystem that adapts to actual usage patterns rather than static schedules. This has led to:

• A substantial decrease in energy consumption of 63,628 kWh per month
• Cost savings of approximately 41% or $13,914 per month
• Average reduction in carbon emissions of 13.8 tons of CO2 each month
