Brokerage internship leads to successful career

Scott Coyle has always been a team player with high expectations. He was active in sports growing up and a member of the collegiate rowing team at UC-Berkeley. When it came time to consider a career path, he knew he wanted to replicate the familiar feeling of teamwork.

“I took a lot of real estate courses during my undergraduate years and realized that I had a natural niche for the industry. I honed my skill set through a few internships before setting out to pursue an internship with JLL, which I chose because I felt a camaraderie and noticed a drive that matched my own,” said Scott.
Through the West Coast Industrial Capital Markets internship leadership program, Scott connected with the Inland Empire office in California, and the rest is history. Post-graduation, Scott moved to launch a career in industrial real estate. It’s been three years since he joined JLL, growing from an intern to an analyst, to his current role as Senior Associate, Industrial Services.
“When you’re coming out of college, you’re stepping into a world that you’re not exactly ready for. JLL had solid platforms and training programs to get me up and running quickly. Senior leadership and the internship team were extremely hands-on and supportive. The one-on-one mentorship moments really impressed me because they demonstrated how much the team cares about supporting learning.”
Through the Young Professionals Group, members from all industry sectors meet weekly to discuss tactics, share what’s working and not working for them. He’s also participated in a week-long Brokerage Boot Camp, where young professionals engage with senior leadership and gain more guidance on building their careers.
“My team truly embraces ‘One JLL’ as our motto,” Scott said. “Here, it’s not individual brokers battling each other. It reminds me of a team and of a family. It’s a great environment to work in. We are all in it together and want to see each other succeed and do the best job for our clients.”
