Tetra Pak relocates to Korean-designed Seoul workspace

Tetra Pak, a leading global food processing and packaging company headquartered in Switzerland, sought to create a friendly office for its relocation to Jung-gu, Seoul, that incorporates Korean design elements and is scheduled to obtain LEED certification. In response to these requirements, JLL provided comprehensive design and construction services, including project management, cost management, and site management. This 1,426-square-metre project aimed to create a new work environment that reflects Korean cultural elements while maintaining Tetra Pak's corporate identity.

Balancing global identity with local soul

Harmoniously combining Tetra Pak's global brand identity with Korean design elements was a significant challenge, but through collaborative efforts and creative problem-solving, JLL's designers successfully reinterpreted Korean concepts within a modern design.

Hanok reimagined for modern work

We ensured that the characteristics of a Hanok were incorporated throughout the office. Long, slender bamboo blinds were reinterpreted in Tetra Pak's brand colours and suspended from the ceiling, while the guest area evoked the atmosphere of a traditional veranda.

A material language of tradition

Korean sentiment was further enhanced by Hanji wallpaper and ceiling finishes resembling the eaves of a Hanok. The final design naturally incorporated Korean-inspired patterns and colour schemes, as well as traditional forms and structures such as toetmaru and hanji, into the space. This approach satisfied Tetra Pak's Korean design requirements while maintaining the company's global brand identity.

Sustainability woven into every layer

Reflecting Tetra Pak's sustainability goals, JLL has introduced eco-friendly elements such as automated lighting control systems, eco-friendly flooring and wall materials, ergonomic furniture, and recycling spaces. These elements not only create a sustainable workspace but also support the goal of achieving LEED Silver certification.

A blueprint for culturally rooted design

The success of this project demonstrates JLL's ability to address complex design requirements, maintain a balance between its global corporate identity and local cultural elements, and prioritize sustainability. Located in the heart of Korea's capital, the Tetra Pak Seoul office sets a new standard for modern offices with a design that delicately reflects cultural characteristics and considers the environment.
