The challenge
The client, a global diversified technology and industrial leader, set out to create a next-generation headquarters powered by advanced smart building technologies, including BMS, IoT platforms and integrated workplace systems. The vision was to create a connected, data-driven workplace that would enhance operational performance and enable smarter decision-making across the enterprise.
However, they recognised a challenge common across many smart building initiatives: although these technologies generated large volumes of operational and workplace data, the insights were not effectively embedded into the business processes that drive enterprise-wide value. The client needed a way to turn this information into measurable operational and business outcomes.
The JLL approach
As a global strategic partner and trusted adviser, JLL was engaged to support the client. Drawing on experience managing smart buildings worldwide and JLL’s proprietary methodologies applied across thousands of global technology implementations, our Technology Solutions team developed a Performance Management Framework to align enterprise strategy, performance measurement and building intelligence across five key dimensions:
- Strategic Alignment: connecting corporate real estate priorities to business goals;
- KPI Definition: establishing meaningful performance measures;
- Metrics Architecture: defining indicators of operational and organisational health;
- Data Mapping: identifying the data attributes required from building systems; and
- Value Communication: articulating corporate real estate’s contribution to enterprise performance.
Bringing it to life
Through a facilitated Business Goals Workshop, stakeholders validated the organisation’s digital strategy and established clear, measurable outcomes to guide implementation and performance tracking.
The engagement also provided a detailed framework linking enterprise vision, business goals, KPIs and data requirements through an interactive dashboard, giving the client greater visibility into how building intelligence could support strategic decision-making. In parallel, our team developed a detailed technology data mapping exercise that connected required data points to specific smart building platform modules and identified opportunities to address data and integration gaps.
This concluded with a set of actionable implementation recommendations designed to help the client operationalise the framework and embed smart building insights into core business processes.
How JLL helped our client to SEE A BRIGHTER WAY
The Performance Management Framework established a scalable approach for integrating smart building insights into operational and strategic decision-making across the organisation. By translating complex technology ecosystems into clear business outcomes, the framework enabled stronger performance measurement, improved data integration and greater long-term value from the client’s smart building investments.
