From automotive engineering to MEP design
Khalid Khan joined our Project & Development Services team in KSA as an intern after graduating from AlFaisal University with a degree in mechanical engineering. While his background centres on automotive and aerodynamics, a longstanding fascination with buildings—both their architecture and construction—drew him to explore the MEP (mechanical, electrical and plumbing) field. "I've heard very good things about JLL," Khalid explains. "I believe this experience will help build my career while expanding my expertise in MEP design and management."
Shadowing the MEP Design Managers, Khalid immersed himself in the daily workflows and responsibilities that bring complex projects to life. While his first two weeks presented a learning curve, he quickly gained momentum, taking on time-sensitive tasks and adapting to his new environment with confidence.
"I was able to comprehend the scope of my team's projects with little issue," he says. "The learning curve was steep initially, but the support from the team made all the difference."
The most memorable moment of Khalid's internship came during a site visit to a giga-project. Having reviewed reports and schematics, he understood the project's magnitude intellectually. Walking through the actual site, however, provided an entirely different perspective.
"Seeing it with my own eyes and walking through it was an experience in itself," Khalid reflects. "The sheer size of the project—experiencing that scale firsthand—really brought home the impact of the work we do."
What distinguishes JLL in Khalid's view is the company's commitment to its people. "I see JLL as a company that genuinely cares for its employees, providing a strong support system," he observes. "Not many companies have that kind of system, and it's so critical these days. Without employees, the company would be at a standstill—hence the need to care for its people."
For graduates exploring careers in real estate and construction, Khalid's experience highlights how JLL's internship programme offers both hands-on learning and meaningful support as young professionals launch their careers.
