TORONTO, July 11, 2022 – Launching its inaugural JLL Award for Black Students, JLL Canada is excited to announce that it has entered into a five-year partnership with the UBC Sauder School of Business, thereby encouraging and supporting Black students wishing to pursue commercial real estate careers. The award assists in removing financial barriers for students, providing opportunities and increasing diversity in the industry.
Each of the recipients listed below demonstrated good academic standing, leadership and involvement in their communities as selected by UBC.
Esaie Maurancy
“I am extremely grateful and honoured to be the first recipient of the JLL award for a Black student in business. We are still a long way away from true equality and justice within our country, but gestures like this one help us move in the right direction and it makes minorities like me feel seen and valued. In my case, it’s even more meaningful as an out-of-town kid who grew up with a single mother in a rough neighbourhood and found my way to Sauder while being an athlete. This award is like a sign for me that says “keep going, great things are ahead”, thank you JLL.”
Esaie Maurancy
“In receiving the JLL Award, which recognizes the importance of supporting students, the future leaders of tomorrow, I will be able to fund my summer semester at UBC. I'm a strong believer in teamwork and mentorship, and what this scholarship means to me is more than just funds, but an opportunity to invest in my future. There are many things I hope to and will accomplish in my lifetime and this award brought me that much closer. As an undergraduate soon to be entering the workforce it's assuring to know companies like JLL continue to recognize and mentor students. It's freeing knowing that I'm supported, allowing me to focus that much more on my pursuit. Thank you JLL.”
“We are incredibly proud of Esaie and Saphoeon and congratulate them on their achievements. We are also truly honoured to help make a difference in students' lives, contributing to diverse talent”, said Diane Cunha, Head of HR, Markets, JLL Canada. “These opportunities will not only support their horizons, but also strengthen the future of our industry.”
In addition to the JLL Award for Black Students, JLL Canada is resolute to support and advocate for the respect and inclusion of all through its Black Professionals Network.
JLL Canada congratulates the 2022 recipients of the JLL Award for Black Students and looks forward to supporting future students.
