JLL has appointed Ian Guthrie as senior managing director in banking and capital, following an 18-month period in which he was a senior adviser to the UK Board. His new position will see him focus on working with JLL's EMEA and UK capital markets, residential, hotels and hospitality and financing teams to bring together their expertise to offer combined real estate and financing solutions to clients.

Having completed over £30bn of transactions, Mr Guthrie brings a combination of debt and equity financing, corporate finance, private equity, restructuring, portfolio management and real estate expertise to the role. He has over 25 years of banking experience, the last eight of which were spent as managing director and head of commercial real estate and non-core at HBOS and Lloyds Banking Group. During this period, he was responsible for a circa £23bn cumulative portfolio comprising distressed and non-core assets, including circa £8bn of hotels and circa £5bn of housebuilders, across both the UK and Europe. Since leaving Lloyds Banking Group in 2014 he has undertaken both board level and senior advisory positions, including as a member of SVP Global's Advisory Council and as a non-executive director of the Industrial Developments Advisory Board, which sits within the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, and advises government ministers on applications from investors seeking to invest in the UK.

At JLL, Mr Guthrie will work with both domestic and international investor clients, principally private equity, who are increasingly seeking combined property and financial solutions. His new position at JLL complements the deep banking, structured finance and debt capital markets experience already in the business. He joins a growing number of advisors who have joined JLL hailing from private equity, investment banking and finance backgrounds.

Chris Ireland, UK CEO at JLL, said: "Ian's insight into and understanding of both financing and real estate ensures that our teams are able to provide tailor-made solutions to investors which reflect both sides of the equation. By bringing together the two respective specialisms into one service we can help clients, through the cycle, to navigate the increasingly complex and dynamic nature of the property market as well as helping them to gain access and exposure to new opportunities."

Matt Rich56ards, JLL's head of EMEA capital markets, added: "I worked with Ian at Lloyds Banking Group and I am delighted that he has joined the team. Our goal is to help investors to see the world differently and achieve their ambitions by providing access to capital, financial expertise and real estate insight. Ian's appointment and significant experience across all asset classes will further strengthen our position as the leading real estate adviser in EMEA and help ensure we are the adviser of choice, providing tailored real estate and financial solutions in a diverse market place."
