JLL conducted a detailed HBU and Strategy study on the planned 4.3 million sq m development for the World Expo 2020 site in Dubai, for the Dubai World Trade Center.
The UAE staged a strong and ultimately successful campaign to host the World Expo 2020 in Dubai. Centred on the theme 'Connecting Minds, Creating the Future' an estimated 25 million visitors are expected to attend the 2020 Expo over a 6 month period, with 70% anticipated to come from outside the UAE. The site for the Expo is located at Dubai World Central (DWC), adjacent to Dubai's new Al Maktoum International Airport.
JLL was appointed as the Real Estate and Strategy Advisor on the UAE's bid for the World Expo. The scope included real estate & healthcare market analysis, benchmarking analysis, master plan review & support, Expo & legacy master plan sizing, detailed financial & investment analysis, and development & phasing strategy. An important aspect of the project was to explore and analyse how the site and the Expo facilities could be best reused for the long term benefit of the city following the conclusion of the event, drawing upon the experiences of other host cities and the unique characteristics of Dubai and its economy.
JLL continued to support the bid and the Client with the on-going research and analysis throughout the bidding process, up until Dubai's final selection as the host city in 2013.
