JLL was engaged as Real Estate advisor in relation to the positioning strategies and subsequent short term and long term strategies for 5.3 million sq m site which housed the Shanghai World Expo in 2010
Shanghai's World Expo, hosted in 2010 attracted over 70million visitors and helped Shanghai to consolidate its position as the leading commercial and financial centre in China. Held on a 5.3 sq km site spanning both sides of the Huangpu river, it showcased China and the world through a record number of dedicated and shared country pavilions, exhibits and events. It also provided a catalyst for the urban regeneration of large areas of former heavy industrial riverside land close to the heart of the city.
JLL was selected by the Shanghai Expo Development Group to assist in determining the site's overall future positioning strategy, through quantitative and qualitative analysis, interviews and case studies. We helped establish the long term real estate development strategy and post expo were engaged in assessing the range of interim leisure, cultural and commercial uses to be accommodated on parts of the site, some making use of the retained pavilion facilities and other infrastructure. Most recently JLL has worked with the Expo Corporation to explore the timing and strategy for the release of land for commercial development.
